The Duntroon Society was formed on 27 June 1980 by the then commandant, Major General A.L. Morrisonwho perceived a need to foster social and professional contact among its members and to allow them to maintain their officer training links through an association with the Royal Military College. 

Membership of the Duntroon Society is open to graduates of the RMC, the Officer Cadet School (OCS), the Officer Training Unit (OTU), the Women's Royal Australian Army Officer Corps Officer Cadet School (WRAAC OCS); and to all commissioned officers of the Australian Army.
