Con Ryan went through the Royal Military College, Duntroon, as a cadet in Alamein Company and a member of the Arts Class.  He graduated in 1964.

He married in December 1964, and had 2 sons and 2 daughters.  One son died due to SIDS in 1968.

Con graduated to Royal Australian Army Ordinance Corps, and served in postings at Townsville, South Vietnam (1966-67), Bandiana, Scheyville, England (1972-74), Melbourne and Canberra.  He resigned from the Army in 1982 (CO 32 Supply Battalion) due to ill health.

He divorced in 1989.

Con farmed near Armidale from 1982-1990; and from 1990-2001 he was a grazier on a Bourke sheep and cattle station with partner Marilyn.  He had a triple bypass in 1997 and left the ‘back of Bourke’ in 2001 for Emmaville; moving onto a smaller property for health reasons, and to be nearer his family.

He died shortly after the Class of 1964’s Re-union in 2004.  He wasn’t able to attend this re-union due to floods in Northern NSW at that time.

Con was a Grandfather of 6.

He was looking forward to being a ‘grey nomad’.
